I just wanted to share a quick update and say thank you. I dropped off the donations to the two communities yesterday, and the families were so incredibly grateful. Thank you to everyone who contributed funds, food, and essential items. It truly makes a difference and it means so much to the families receiving it.
Many of the situations we are encountering right now are really difficult. Some families are trying to move forward after a parent has been deported and are figuring out how to rebuild their lives while raising their children on their own. Others stayed home during the recent period of fear in their communities and, because of that, lost their jobs. Many are now trying to find work again while also facing gaps in income that make it hard to cover basic needs like rent, utilities, and food.
If anyone happens to be looking for house cleaners, painters, or has connections to workplaces that are hiring, please let me know. I would be happy to connect you with people who are eager to find safe places to work.
Even though there are fewer reports of activity than there were a few weeks ago, ICE has not completely gone away. Because of that, many families are still feeling afraid to leave their homes as they try to figure out how to move forward and what life may look like for them now. The experience of staying inside out of fear has taken a real emotional toll on many in these communities.
Thank you so much again for continuing to show up for your neighbors and for supporting these families through such a difficult time.
